Emergency Food Distribution

For over 40 years, SMSJ has had a food-focused mission program to support our Beechwood neighbors facing food insecurity. Today, we offer a weekly Food Shelf and a Summer Farm Stand to increase the amount of fresh, healthy food options in the community.

E.D.E.N. Food Shelf

Food Shelf is open to guests every Wednesday from 10:30 am - Noon

We believe that every person has the right to reliable, low-barrier, and local access to nutritious food.

Our weekly Food Shelf offers an easily accessible food pantry model - with an offering of various grains, proteins, dairy, and meats. We are actively working to dismantle stumbling blocks that prevent food getting into the hands of those that need it.

Families are served as often as they need - once every week or once every year. We are committed to serving all members of the Beechwood neighborhood and beyond regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability status. We are continuously looking for ways to improve and strengthen the ways that we show up for our community through Food Shelf.

As a Foodlink partner agency, we are able to purchase food in bulk that gets unloaded, bagged, and distributed every single week. Food Shelf is also home to our Resource Center, featuring a number of multilingual resources from local community partners and agencies. We frequently invite staff from organizations like MVP Healthcare and LawNY to assist in providing resources to our Food Shelf guests.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we gather as guests on the ancestral land of the Seneca Nation, a member of the Haudenosaunee/Six Nations Confederacy. Today, this region is still the home to the Haudenosaunee people, and we are grateful for the opportunity to live, work, pray, and share ideas in this territory.
